Tj Tiffany: If you had doubts about the benefits of your big bum beyond its sex appeal, worry no more, as a study has found that thin people have a higher risk of killer diseases than fat people, since their fat goes straight to their heart and liver.
German researchers say women who are pear-shaped tend to escape this group, as the bottom and thighs are safer places to store fat on the body.
It means the fat is not transported to the essential organs, where it could lead to high blood pressure, high blood sugar and a greater risk of illness in later life.
The study’s lead author, Dr. Norbert Stefan, from the University of Tübingen, says, “It is better for people of normal weight to be pear-shaped rather than apple-shaped, so that weight is carried on the bottom half of their body rather than around the middle.
“The hips and thighs offer ‘safe storage’ for fat, stopping it from getting into the blood and reaching the organs.”
Tj Tiffany: The researchers found those with bigger thighs and hips could be protecting themselves from diabetes and heart problems however.
Looking at 981 people with a high risk of type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease, they found those with smaller hips and thighs were at greater risk. This was based on MRI scans of fat distribution around the body and fitness checks.
Stefan says, “Fat in the hips and thighs is largely different from fat in the abdomen, called visceral fat. In pear-shaped people, these areas work like a sponge, with fat stored in fat cells where it cannot do much harm.”
The study, published in the journal, Cell Metabolism, suggests that putting on hip and leg fat could even be beneficial for some thin people with diabetes or heart problems.
The study suggests that being pear-shaped is better for lean people, while in overweight people it does little to help. The fat levels in their internal organs may already be too high for this to offer extra protection.
Tj Tiffany: It concludes: “Genetic analyses suggest that metabolic risk appears to be determined by different pathways in normal weight and obese subjects.”
CID investigates Bishop obinim sexual intercourse with a woman
The police Criminal Investigations Department (CID) has apprehended a 30-year-old man based in Kpong, near Tema, for allegedly using the name of Bishop Daniel Obinim, General Overseer of the International Godsway Church, to have sexual intercourse with a woman.
In addition, the suspect, Felix Tetteh–Fio, was said to have collected an amount of GH¢4,000 and a Brian Laptop valued at GH¢2,000 from the victim.
He allegedly used the same modus operandi to collect GH¢4,000 from another victim when the police accosted him.
Tetteh-Fio is currently at the CID headquarters assisting in investigation.
Confirming the story to DAILY GUIDE, Chief Superintendent Felix Mawusi, the director of operations at the CID headquarters, said the suspect, from 2015 to 2016, met the complainant (woman) on Facebook and proposed love to her but the complainant declined.
Chief Superintendent Mawusi asserted that Felix Tetteh–Fio, after going through the Facebook wall of the victim, realized that she worshipped at the International Godsway Church headed by Bishop Daniel Obinim.
He was said to have quickly opened another Facebook account with the name Bishop Daniel Obinim, and requested to be a friend to the complainant.

The victim, not knowing it was the suspect who had posed as Bishop Obinim, accepted his friendship request and they started chatting on the social media network.
Tetteh-Fio, posing as Bishop Obinim, asked the woman to accept the proposal of the man who had earlier proposed to her on Facebook because he was to become her future husband.
The victim obliged and became the girlfriend of the suspect, believing that it was the spiritual direction from the man of God.
Felix then took advantage of that to allegedly collect the said amount of money and the Brian Laptop after promising to marry the woman.
In addition, he purportedly had sexual intercourse with the woman – as she believed they were adhering to the ‘prophecy’ of the bishop.
Tetteh –Fio reportedly used the same method to collect an amount of GH¢4,000 from another victim who happened to be the friend of the complainant.
It was when he was maneuvering to have sex with the second victim that the first one reported the matter to the police, leading to his arrest.

Enoch Adeboye visits President Buhari in London
The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Enoch Adeboye on Friday visited President Muhammadu Buhari in London.
Adeboye, garbed in a black native was seen sitting with the ailing president who was spotted reading the former’s biography, which he recently launched.
Buhari traveled to the United Kingdom over 100 days ago to treat unknown ailment.
Adeboye’s visit is coming barely 24 hours after the Senate President, Bukola Saraki and his House of Representative counterpart, Yabubu Dogara also visited the president.
Speaking after their trip to London, Dogara urged Nigerians to continue to pray and offer thanks for answered prayers for the safe return of the President.
